Documents to bring
     
Here follows a list of essential – often obligatory – documents to bring with you for your stay in France. This list is not exhaustive.
     


> A valid passport, or identity card for European Union members.

> Long stay visa stamped “student” for non-European Union members.

Birth certificate translated and authenticated, stating the first and last names of father and mother.

> Attestation of pre-enrolment or preliminary acceptance granted by the French higher education establishment that you have chosen.

> Originals (which you must never send by post) and translated and authenticated copies of diplomas from secondary or higher education establishments that you obtained in your country.

> Proof of financial resources or grant certificate, translated and authenticated.

> Detailed breakdown of school grades per subject obtained over the last two school years (secondary or higher education). Please note: this school report is essential for enrolment in the final year at a lycee, a preparatory class for the grandes écoles, an IUT and in certain other university courses.

> The student card from your university.

> The original documentary proof given to the consulate of the French Embassy. This can be requested at the border and will be required when you apply for a resident’s permit.

> Certificate of health cover or health insurance (form E 111 or E 128 or European health card if you are an EU member).

French government grant-holders : a letter of introduction from the cultural service at the French Embassy in your home country, together with a translated attestation certifying that the secondary education diploma qualifies the holder to apply for higher education in the home country.

Married students : a copy of the marriage certificate, translated and authenticated.

Health record book and record of vaccinations.

> A valid driving licence allowing you to drive in France for two years or an international driving licence, if you are thinking of using your car in France.
