Every year the Cité Internationale accommodates 12,000 students, researchers and artists in its 40 houses.
Edmond Haraucourt, the man who penned the famous lines “Partir, c’est mourir un peu” or “To leave is to die a little” (from his Rondelet de l’Adieu) was a poet who believed in André Honnorat’s work and in 1929, Haraucourt decided to make a contribution to this project in some way. As he and his wife Mathilde were childless, they decided to bequeath their house on Île de Bréhat to the Cité internationale. After her husband’s death, Mathilde Haraucourt continued to live in the house until she passed away in 1961, at which time it became the property of the university.
The Haraucourt Donation, also called Kervarabes House, is open to residents free of charge in July and August. The house is also available to groups under certain conditions throughout the year.
