Every year the Cité Internationale accommodates 12,000 students, researchers and artists in its 40 houses.
The west wing of International House has been strictly reserved for residents of the Cité internationale since 1976. Robert Garric, for whom the house was named, was the Director of the Delegation for the Cité, as well as being a writer, founder of the Social Teams movement (Equipes Socials), and later director of Secours National. As a philosophy professor at the Institut Sainte-Marie, his students included Simone de Beauvoir, who included him in her Memoires of a Dutiful Daughter.
The Robert Garric Residence together with the André Honnorat Residence and the Victor Lyon Foundation form the International Centre for Short Stays (CICS). Its goal is to encourage exchanges and meetings between residents from all over the world, whatever their origins, language or culture. The Foundation hosts students, teachers and researchers who are staying between three days and ten months. Residents are selected upon an application detailing their university career, their ambitions and their revenue.
